Information you provide. When you use our donation form, you may enter:
This information is stored locally in your browser using the browser's localStorage feature. It is not transmitted to our servers. We do this so that you can see and reuse your past dedications without us needing to maintain a database of donor records.
Thank-you wall posts. When you post a thank-you or a reply on a facility's wall, we collect the text you write, the facility, and any first name, initials, or city you choose to add. This information is stored in a database hosted by our infrastructure provider, Cloudflare. Approved posts are shown publicly on the Site. We do not ask for your email address or an account to post.
Spam and abuse prevention. When you post, like, or report a post, we store a one-way, salted hash derived from your IP address rather than the address itself. We use it only to limit how often one visitor can post, to count each visitor's like or report once, and to prevent abuse. Your browser also remembers which posts you liked, using localStorage on your device.
AI-assisted review. Before a post is submitted, its text is sent to Anthropic's Claude API to check it against our posting rules and suggest edits. Only the text of the post is sent, not your name, city, or IP address. Anthropic processes this text under its commercial terms.
Information collected automatically. When you visit the Site, our hosting provider may collect standard server logs, including IP address, browser type, referring URL, pages visited, and timestamps. This information is used for security and operational purposes and is generally not used to identify individual visitors.
Cookies and analytics. The Site may use a minimal set of cookies for site functionality. If we use a privacy-respecting analytics tool (such as Plausible or Fathom), it will collect aggregated, non-identifying statistics about Site usage. We do not use cross-site tracking pixels or advertising cookies.
We do not collect payment information. When you complete a donation, you do so on the third-party charity's own donation page, and any credit card or payment information you provide is collected and processed by that charity (or their payment processor), not by us.
Thank-you wall posts are used to review and display them on the Site and, once approved, may be shared on Thank ATC's own channels. Information stored in your browser is used solely to assist you in completing your donation or to remember which posts you liked. Server logs are used to operate, secure, and improve the Site. Aggregated analytics are used to understand how the Site is performing in general.
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for their marketing purposes.
When you click through from our Site to a third-party charity's donation page (such as NATCA Charitable Foundation, ALPA Pilots for Pilots, or any other linked charity), you leave our Site and enter the charity's own website. That charity's privacy policy and data practices apply from that point forward. We have no control over and are not responsible for the charity's handling of your information.
The Site links to external aviation resources (LiveATC.net, FlightAware, Flightradar24, the FAA, AOPA, AirNav, Aviation Weather Center, and others). We do not control these sites and are not responsible for their content or privacy practices.
Approved thank-you wall posts are kept until they are removed. Posts that are declined may be deleted periodically. Rate-limiting records are deleted after about one day. Information stored in your browser's localStorage remains there until you clear your browser data or until you use the "start over" function on the donation form. Server logs are retained according to our hosting provider's standard retention policies.
The Site is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can address the issue.
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have rights under data protection laws (such as the GDPR in the EU or the CCPA in California) including the right to access, correct, or delete information about you. Because we hold very little personal information centrally, most data-related requests can be satisfied by clearing your browser's local data. To ask us to remove a thank-you wall post you wrote, email [email protected] with the facility name and the text of the post. For other requests, contact us at the same address.
We take reasonable measures to protect information transmitted in connection with the Site, including the use of HTTPS encryption. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision. We encourage you to review the Policy periodically.
